The Edge presents Live & Lit 2018

Young Hackney youth hub, The Edge, hosted a night of live music and entertainment by local artists on Saturday 17 February!

20 young people volunteered to plan all areas of the musical showcase, bringing together a diverse range of musicians, who collaborated with a 3 piece band to perform in front of a live audience.

In the lead up to the event, The Edge ran a variety of industry workshops throughout January. DJs, Public Relations Experts and Radio Executives visited the youth hub to offer their knowledge and advice in sessions with participants in the event and young people in the wider community.

The night of the event combined all the workshops and rehearsals the young artists had committed to, successfully creating a vibrant show with a mix of musical genres.

A highlight of the night came from young artist, MC Hope, who recently transitioned from The Edge’s Junior to Senior provision. His performance was about a personal experience overcoming bullying and his positive aspirations for the future. He filled the room with energy bringing the audience to their feet with loud cheers and applause!

Selina Stephens, Youth Support & Development Worker for Young Hackney, who also supported the planning and execution of the event said:

“The young artists pushed themselves and exceeded all challenges like true professionals. The event was nothing less than inspiring, all young people involved truly did themselves and Hackney proud.”

The event closed with the second annual Live & Lit Cypher, which saw all the artists come together in a freestyled group performance, over an instrumental created by young producer CKeyz.

I mean, it’s safe to say Live & Lit 2018 was amazing and if you missed it this year we don’t think you should make the same mistake next year!
