If you don’t vote … your voice won’t be heard. Register now!
You may have noticed – there’s a General Election campaign going on right now – and whoever gains a majority on 8 June is going to be running the country for the next five years.
Members of Hackney Youth Parliament are urging young people in Hackney aged 18 and over, who are not yet registered to vote, to go online and add their names to the electoral roll.
HYP South member, Kairi Weekes-Sanderson, says: ‘It only takes five minutes to register, but decisions made by the next government will affect our generation in years to come. If you’ve got some kind of power over who makes those decisions, you need to use that power.’
The deadline for registration is 11:59pm on 22 May (you don’t need to register again if you’ve already registered). But… if you don’t register, you can’t vote.
You can register online through https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You may need to refer to your National Insurance number, so make sure you have this handy.
