Syphilis is transmitted through unprotected vaginal, oral and anal sex.

Symptoms can include small sores, so little ulcers on the penis the vagina or around the anus. These are usually painless.

You may only have one of them. You may have a spot that quite quickly goes away, so you may think it is nothing to worry about. And then you may get a rash which is very unusual because the rash can sometimes be on the palms of your hands, the soles of your feet or across the chest.

You may think it’s not worth going to get yourself treated. You do need to get yourself treated with penicillin because left untreated it can do a lot of damage.

Syphilis used to be a killer. It’s not any more because the treatment is very good.
